GROVESEND AND WAUNGRON COMMUNITY COUNCIL - RISK OF CLOSURE AFTER OVER HALF A CENTURY OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

Apologies for the long post but we feel it is important to reach out to all who will be affected.

Under the 2013 Act, each principal council has a duty to monitor the communities in its area and the electoral arrangements of those communities for the purposes of considering whether to make or recommend changes. Therefore Swansea Council has commissioned the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales to review and put forward proposals for community boundary changes. The full report can be found at www.ldbc.gov.wales/reviews/05-24/swansea-community-review-draft-proposals

Basically they have proposed that Grovesend and Waungron merge with Gorseinon Town Council.

We are concerned that if this happens we will lose the sense of Community and local identity within Grovesend and Waungron with various organisations still operating in this area. Our area is well-defined and manageable allowing Community Councillors to develop a deep understanding of the Community's needs and arrange events/ support specifically for our community. We feel that if we merge with Gorseinon this will disappear and the main focus of any engagement will happen in Gorseinon and Grovesend and Waungron will be forgotten due to more pressing matters happing in Gorseinon. We are also concerned that community events will no longer happen in the village, with the anticipation that the community will travel to Gorseinon for the larger events that are held.

If you have liked having a community council and the events we have run, and wish to try and keep Grovesend and Waungron Community Council as one and not merge with Gorseinon please could you email your support for this, with your own personal reason as to why, to: - email@grovesendwaungron.org.uk

Many thanks.

Regards

Yvonne
